Waterkloof High School came out in force today to attend the Tree Handing-over Ceremony held at the school. This event is part of The Success Academy’s greening and tree growing project, Save Our Planet – Plant a Tree.
Charl du Toit CEO of The Success Academy, a property development and management company, has teamed up with Willow Feather Farm in support of Save Our Planet – Plant a Tree. As a corporate responsibility initiative, the company has donated 1780 trees to the school, so that every learner and teacher received their own tree, beautifully wrapped and ready to plant.
Headmaster of the school, Mr. Daan Potgieter said: “We have a responsibility to conserve our heritage for future generations. The best way to start is now and what better way to implement conservation practically by planting a tree!“
Planting a tree, is not just about putting it in the ground. It is the most effective way of consuming greenhouse gasses. In addition, it creates a continuous conversation around the caring and nurturing of a living organism. The more trees that are planted the greater the benefits for generations to come.
To date Charl, who is passionate about saving the planet, has donated 5300 trees and has undertaken to increase this amount to 150 000 over a five year period. “The trees are all indigenous and mature in four to five years, so the children actually grow up with their trees. Not only is it thrilling for them, they learn about the implications of saving our planet and of cherishing earth’s finite resources.
“We salute Waterkloof High for participating in the Save Our Planet – Plant a Tree project. Parents and teachers play an essential role in communicating the importance of cherishing earth’s finite resources. If we are determined to save our planet, it’s up to us to lead the way – and what better way than planting a tree? It falls on each individual, families, companies and communities to make a conscious decision to reduce our waste and our footprint for future generations,” he says.
Charl has put out an appeal to other corporates to join him in this initiative. To make it more convenient, rather than planting 100 trees at a time, his team can facilitate the planting of five to ten trees a month per sponsor. His aim is to get 500 corporates on board as a corporate responsibility investment that will make a significant difference to the environment in which we live.
